At Wild Apple, we’ve built our business around this simple idea: artists deserve transparency, respect, and trusted partnerships.

Recently, we’ve become aware of a website that appears to use design elements and marketing copy that are identical to Wild Apple’s. We have also been contacted by artists who have received emails from this website and were unsure whether we were involved with this company in any way, shape or form.

To be absolutely clear, Wild Apple is not affiliated with any other licensing agency in any way. We are independently owned and operated and always work with our artists one-on-one.

While we are addressing this matter separately, our priority is making sure artists have the information they need to protect themselves before signing any licensing agreement.

Five Things Every Artist Should Know When Looking to Work with an Art Licensing Agency

1. A legitimate licensing agency should never ask you to pay to be represented.

Professional art licensing agencies earn income by licensing artwork and sharing in the success of those licenses through a royalty structure. You should never be required to pay application fees, representation fees, portfolio review fees, or upfront marketing costs simply to become represented.

2. Read every contract carefully

Licensing agreements are legal documents that can affect your career for years to come. A professional agreement should clearly explain:

  • Who owns the artwork
  • What rights are being licensed
  • Does the artist maintain ownership of the original copyright
  • Whether representation is exclusive or non-exclusive
  • Royalty and commission structures
  • Payment schedules
  • The length of the agreement
  • How either party may terminate the relationship
  • What happens after the agreement ends

If a contract feels unusually brief, vague, or leaves important questions unanswered, don’t be afraid to ask for clarification before signing.

3. You should know who you’re working with

At Wild Apple, every artist who joins our roster meets with our CEO and one of our Art Directors over a video call before any agreement is signed. We believe representation is a partnership. That means getting to know each other, discussing expectations, answering questions, and making sure the relationship is a good fit for everyone involved.

4.No one can guarantee success

Be cautious of anyone promising licensing deals, guaranteed royalties, or immediate income. Successful art licensing takes time, strong relationships, and the right opportunities.

5. Do your homework

Before signing with any agency, take a few minutes to research them. Look for:

  • A professional history
  • Original content
  • Real artists
  • Established licensing relationships
  • Active social media
  • Clear contact information
  • A website that accurately reflects the company

Most importantly, ask questions. A reputable agency should welcome them.

If You’re Ever Unsure, Ask

If you receive communication from an agency that seems similar to or claims to work with Wild Apple and you’re uncertain whether it’s authentic, please contact us directly before signing anything. We’d be happy to chat and let you know if we sent anything to you.

Protecting artists has always been central to what we do. We believe the best licensing relationships begin with trust, transparency, and open communication.

Your artwork represents years of creativity and hard work. Take the time to choose a partner who values it as much as you do.
