We were all a flutter yesterday when we heard Pantone was announcing their color of the year for 2018. Hello “Ultra Violet” – we can’t wait to get to know you better.

There was a lot of speculation on what this years color was going to be. Last years color, Greenery, was fresh, full of potential but we all wondered if the turmoil of 2017 meant we were going to be faced with a dark, forboding color like black. Ultra Violet was a complete surprise.

According to Pantone, “Complex and contemplative, Ultra Violet suggests the mysteries of the cosmos, the intrigue of what lies ahead, and the discoveries beyond where we are now. The vast and limitless night sky is symbolic of what is possible and continues to inspire the desire to pursue a world beyond our own.”

“It’s also the most complex of all colors,” she said, “because it takes two shades that are seemingly diametrically opposed — blue and red — and brings them together to create something new.”

Some of you might be thinking that purple is not a color that you can easily bring into the home. Art is a great way to bring color into any room. Wall decor in shades of purple or mixed with other palettes can add a pop of trendy color into a room. Accessories like dishes, hand towels, linens, pillows and more will instantly update a room. It’s not a color for everyone but we certainly love the possibilities of adding purple into our daily lives.
