In April we conduced our ninth trip since 2012 to Guangzhou, China to attend the Canton Fair and Jinhan Fair. The group of Art Copyright Coalition (ACC) members walked the shows hunting for illegal copies of artwork and confronting infringers. The good news is that infringements were at the lowest level we have seen since we […]
This year we’ve got the blues and we love it. We’re seeing every shade of blue at retail. Top designers often use blue to inspire calmness and relaxation while crisp shades like indigo and 2017’s brighter cobalt, add instant pizzazz and cool refinement. Over the years we’ve presented a lot of art to our customers and […]
With Valentine’s Just Around the Corner, Love is in the Air. While we adore Valentine’s Day (chocolate anyone?) we think you should keep the love in the home all year round. Good-bye monkey—we’re celebrating the rooster! January 28, 2017 was the start of the lunar new year. 2017 is making its mark as the year of the rooster – and not just any rooster – the fire rooster! The rooster represents hard work, diligence, order and time keeping – after all who wakes us better at […]
Newsflash, I lost the election (see blog ©hester for President) The “campaign,” such as it was, focused solely on Copyright Protection, a topic that actually did get some national attention. But despite what any official says, no single person can fix the problem; copyright protection is a team sport. Apart from our own efforts, over the […]
As an art and design company we follow trends very closely—especially color trends. We were so excited last week when Pantone announced their 2017 color of the year … Greenery! We are loving this fresh and vibrant hue. A beautiful yellow-green shade, greenery is everything good about spring and all things fresh and beautiful in […]
Feeling blue doesn’t have to be a bad thing. The color blue is coming on strong in home decor and fashion. One of the most versatile shades, adding watery and light blues can make a home feel right as rain. Whatever shade you choose blue has been and remains one of the most versatile and loved colors […]

This season, we’re seeing dreamy landscapes surge in popularity, becoming softer, dreamier and more ethereal. […]
Wild Apple was thrilled to sponsor the VINS En Plein Air Festival last week. For the past couple of years we have been thrilled to sponsor the Vermont Institute of Natural Science En Plein Air Festival here in Vermont. It truly is a beautiful event bringing talented artists to our beautiful back door to paint in the remarkable beauty and diversity of the Ottauquechee River and the Connecticut Watershed.
Retailers have to be constantly on the go, revamping products and creating in-store displays that inspire. It’s not an easy job and it takes a special talent to keep creating amazing room-settings that your customers are going to love. That’s why when we saw Larson Juhl’s “Tips for Creating Effective In-Store Room Settings,” we knew we […]
We love bright, beautiful brilliant color. While neutral decor is all the rage, color has a very important role in the home. Color can change how we feel. It also communicates to everyone else something about who we are. The great thing about a neutral room is that it is the perfect backdrop to make bold […]
This summer tropical-inspired decor is simply the hottest thing in the home. This isn’t the first time the world has been in love with palm fronds and art and prints with a tropical vibe. Made famous by the Beverly Hills hotel, the Martinique wallpaper is the most recognizable palm pattern in the world. This amazing […]

Behind every great sophisticated man cave is a stylish man with an eye for detail. These aren’t rooms inspired by dogs playing poker or sports jerseys. These are stylish, elegant, even rugged spaces that create a personal space where you can lose yourself in a hobby, watch the game or hang with friends. Masculine in […]

Surtex is one of the most important art licensing shows of the year. It seems like everyone is headed to New York this weekend and we’ve been happily reading some incredible blog posts from amazing artists and designers who are getting ready for the show. Surtex is a pretty big deal so we polled our art […]
As an art publisher it is amazing to get the opportunity to work directly with an artist. Our visit with Melissa was a good time to get acquainted and see her artistry in action. What I learned is that Melissa doesn’t waste any time in getting started. I turned my back for 5 minutes and she had eight paintings going all at once.
Julia Purinton has worked as a fine artist and muralist from a studio on the north shore of Massachusetts, and more recently from the mountains of Vermont. The woods, gardens and fields of her childhood memories are just as likely to show up in a painting today as the scene from her morning coffee break.
We work with art, so of course we love bright, bold colors. But we also love the simplistic elegance of neutrals and the endless design opportunities this palette presents in the home. Look at some of the most timeless and elegant interiors and you will often see the use of a very neutral color scheme. From subtle grays and creams to rich shades of brown and black, creating a neutral space doesn’t have to be dull.

The color red traditionally represents passion, anger and energy, and no other color seems to elicit the same emotional response. In the home, some are attracted to the intense nature of red, while others find it alarming. One thing all color experts agree on is that red draws attention and is easily the defining color in a space – even when used in sparing quantities.

It’s OK to be blue. Indigo is a hot color for the home. And it’s everywhere. From fashion houses to the house around the corner, indigo is surprisingly tranquil for a bold color. This gorgeous inky hue, reminiscent of denim, happily fits into any room and any decorating style. It is perfect when paired with […]
The cold grey skies and smokestacks of the industrial Midwest where she grew up motivated Kellie Day to go west. “After college in Indiana, I ventured out to seek a more amazing landscape.” Kellie traveled the globe enthusiastically for a decade and a half, finally settling in the San Juan Mountains where she is “endlessly inspired by the mountain and desert landscapes.” When at home, you can find Kellie raising her son and two rescue dogs, running a graphic design studio and painting her heart out.

Want to brighten up a room? Say “Hello Yellow!” A yellow room all on its own may be a bit too bright, even for the most seasoned color lover. But, adding in pops of yellow with wall decor and home accents will give you a quick hit of gorgeous, sunny color that will get your mood popping! From neon shades […]
Ten years ago I set foot in Paris for the first time and fell in love with the city. The architecture, shops, cafés, and the people were practically begging me to take photos of them. Paris was where I fell in love with photography. I have been lucky enough to pass through Paris several more times in the […]
Like Frank Sinatra says, we want to be part of it, New York, New York! From the shopping, to the food, from the people to the plays on Broadway, there is something magical about New York City. Designers and artists have been in love with this mega metropolis forever and we understand why. From the moment […]
Life is busy. It feels almost impossible to escape the pressures of the modern world so we’re nesting; creating spaces that celebrate nature and giving us spaces to breathe. This trend isn’t just about adding some flowers in a vase; it’s so much better than that. Colors are soft and muted. Mossy greens, earthy browns […]
Since the 1800s, before the birth of photography, artists have been creating silhouette portraits. Classically composed as a black portrait on a white background, they were cheaper and faster to create than a traditional portrait so quickly gained popularity with the middle class. Today, silhouettes continue to charm us with their beautiful simplicity and elegance. […]
Orphan works are those whose copyright parents, i.e. owners, can’t be located, and therefore receive something of a copyright “pass” in potential penalties. It turns out that the fears were overblown in several respects, as described in an Art Copyright Coalition sponsored white paper by Joshua Kaufman.
It’s summer and that means everything is blooming. It’s the perfect time to have a chat about botanicals. Botanicals have been a popular art subject for centuries. Did you know they have found a 15th Century BC stone frieze depicting 275 plants in the tomb of Thutmose III in Karnak, Egypt? According to the American Society of Botanical […]
We all love a little adventure and even if we can’t travel somewhere exciting, at least we can create an escape right in our own homes. Maps are the perfect way to create your own little travel-inspired oasis. Designers are using large-scale wall murals to add WOW while product designers are creating entire home decor […]
We love bright, beautiful, bold, brilliant color. It’s easy to be scared of bright colors in the home. Frankly, the idea of painting a wall bright orange, or red, leaves us with chills. Have no fear, there is an easier way … art and home decor accessories to the rescue! Everywhere you look you are going […]
Two years ago a group of us Art Copyright Coalition members began attending Chinese trade shows for the purpose of confronting copyright infringements. I admit I had doubts about whether the strategy would work, or just be a futile exercise trying to stop a tsunami. Remarkably, the strategy is working very well. Even though we […]
You may have heard that Alibaba is going public. In a big way, perhaps the biggest IPO ever. It boggles my mind that the world’s biggest facilitator of counterfeit goods is meeting with such investor acclaim. One of my jobs is working on copyright protection, both for Wild Apple and for the Art Copyright Coalition. […]
Under the premises that a) policing copyrights may be more effective from inside the Chinese system, and b) building sales in the fastest growing consumer market would be a good thing, Wild Apple for the first time exhibited at China Art & Frame Expo (CAFExpo) in Shanghai. I’ll admit, it was a bit overwhelming with […]
