The “campaign,” such as it was, focused solely on Copyright Protection, a topic that actually did get some national attention. But despite what any official says, no single person can fix the problem; copyright protection is a team sport.
Apart from our own efforts, over the last year we have received tips about suspected rip-offs from all corners of the business: artists, customers, retailers, competitors, and consumers. The network, formal and informal, is what provides the power and the many eyes on the market. Shaming the infringers and spreading the word is proving to be our most effective weapon. After all, it’s in the self-interest of every legitimate player to make sure no one else is stealing art for free.
